Mission 12, Entry 1
So, we are currently a little more than halfway through the journey from Beta II to the asteroid belt of this system. Well, technically it is designated Beta AS2, as in Beta Asteroid System 2, but there is no way in hell that I am referring to this asteroid belt as Beta AS2. Instead, I will be referring to it with the incredibly well-thought-out name that I came up with after great debate with myself and a little bit of input from Tara. That name is the Calaphysi Belt. This is the name that the asteroid belt shall henceforth be referred to as, and anyone who says otherwise will hear personally from Asteri and Tara in the future.
For legal and historical purposes, the above paragraph is a joke. I mean, I will still be referring to the asteroid field as the Calaphysi Belt in the logs, and I will use any other names for any other things I come up with, but I am leaving the future residents of this system to change any names as they see fit. If they were to keep using these names though, it would be cool. Also, I should mention it is Beta AS2 because this is the second asteroid field in the Beta star system. The first one is closer to the star, even closer than Beta I.
Moving on to the more important part of this log- we have movement on Beta II. Well, there was or will be movement on Beta II. Asteri found out that our comms systems were mistakenly picking up transmissions that the enemy was using. They were being deleted because they were considered as external interference, but Asteri managed to catch the latest one before it was deleted. It turns out, the hostile force was waiting for something like this to happen and are now conducting a two-pronged attack.
We believe one side of the assault will be on the bases on the ground. The bases can stand strong for now, but I need to return to Transcender and deploy back to the ground to repair those bases. So, they are extremely vulnerable right now. Bit of hindsight, but we should have probably repaired them all before leaving. Thankfully they haven’t begun any assaults yet, but it’s only a matter of time. The real question is, what is the second target supposed to be? If I had to guess, it has to be Transcender. Whatever the case, Transcender is the most valuable component of the entire mission. If it were to be destroyed, this mission is done and dusted, no questions asked.
As such, it is starting to look like our bid towards the Calaphysi Belt will be aborted the moment I land. The danger to Transcender and all the other elements of the mission is too grave to ignore. The Base Pod structure will stay here though and we can hopefully get back here to make use of it soon. It will still be around 15 more days to get back to Beta II after landing at the asteroid belt. I hope the installations will hold until then, or at least hold long enough that I can defend and push back what’s left. There is nothing to be done right now but wait.
Also, I am genuinely starting to annoy myself about the fact that I am still referring to the hostile force as, well, the 'hostile force' or the 'enemy'. Surely if I keep writing like that again and again I'll annoy myself into actually deciding a name for them. You know what? Since I am sitting around on the Pioneer doing nothing, I may as well rack my brains and decide what I'll be calling them from now on before I get back to Beta II.
